Puck It @ The Playoffs: Caps avoid sweep in OT

Just the one game last night, with an incident we’ve talked about here and another Capitals overtime.

Capitals 3 – 2 Penguins (PIT leads 2 – 1)

Sidney Crosby’s early exit from the game came before a goal had even been scored, but the Pens seemed to be missing a Crosby-shaped something from their performance, as Kevin Shattenkirk’s OT winner helped the Caps over the line to finally get a foot back in this tie.

They had to win the game twice, though. They were two goals up through Nicklas Backstrom (13:05, PP) and Evgeny Kuznetsov (49:46) heading into the final two minutes, but goals from Evgeni Malkin and Justin Schultz, 48 seconds apart in the 59th minute, sent the game into overtime.

Shattenkirk was the hero of the day though, his power-play market at 63:13 ending the game and giving the Caps some hope in the series.

Tonight’s action

Two games tonight. One east, one west. Like it should have been to avoid some scheduling conflicts. NHL, yo.

Senators @ Rangers (OTT leads 2 – 0)

Faceoff: 7/4/12

The Sens won out at home. Can they do the same away?

I can’t see the Rangers losing twice in MSG but then I didn’t see the Blackhawks being swept or the Capitals being taken to six so who knows at this point?

What the Sens need to do: Carry the momentum on
What the Rangers need to do: stop the momentum

Reason to watch: The first two games have been surprisingly entertaining.

Blues @ Predators (NSH leads 2 – 1)

Faceoff: 9:30/6:30/2:30

Game four of another good battle. Mike Milbury reckons PK Subban is a clownish distraction. The lead says otherwise.

I expect this to be another close game with not many goals in it. So there’ll be 13 now.

What the Blues need to do: Bounce back, again.
What the Preds need to do: Push the advantage, take advantage of the Blues chasing the series.

Reason to watch: Close dramatic hockey. Lovely lovely lovely.
